Paxton House

Located in the Berwick-Upon-Tweed just uphill from the river tweed, Paxton House is a grand country house built by John Adam for Patrick Home of Billie. Paxton House contains grand interiors housing a large collection of Chippendale furniture and historic costumes which can be explored on a guided tour lead by Paxton House’s friendly and knowledgeable guides. A highlight of the House is the grand Picture Gallery which designed by Robert Reid is the largest private gallery of any country house in Scotland. The Picture Gallery currently showcasing works of art dating from the late 18th century and early 19th century many of them having been loaned by the National Galleries of Scotland.

Surrounding Paxton House are 80 acres of wonderful gardens woodland, riverside scenery. At the bottom of the hill and the houses gardens is the River Tweed. The river is actively used for salmon fishing and features a small boat house which has been restored from its Victorian plans and can now be used for private hire or exhibitions. Should visitors wish to experience the river tweed they can now book boat trips on it. Located elsewhere in the grounds are great woodland and garden walks and a fantastic family friendly adventure playground featuring swings, slides complete with a zip wire!

The Stables Cafe

The Stables Café offered a range of meals, ice creams, cakes and hot/cold drinks. The Café has free Wi-Fi access with a password available from the staff upon request.
