Lindisfarne Priory
Situated on the remote Holy Island, Lindisfarne Priory has a wealth of history dating back to AD635 when it was founded by St Aidan. The priory is one of the most important centres of early Christianity in Anglo-Saxon England and is known for having been the home of famous holy figure St Cuthbert and his fellow monks who once lived in the priory. The priory is also the original home of the famous Lindisfarne Gospels which is now located in the British Library.
Visitors to the priory can explore the extensive remains of the historic priory and even lean more about the wealth of its history in the priory museum.
Access to Holy Island is restricted by the causeway crossing times. Please click here to consult the safe crossing times before visiting.
