Chestrers Roman Fort
Chesters Roman Fort features the most complete roman cavalry fort remains in Britain. Visitors to the fort can see and explore the remains of the principal gates, the headquarters building, hall, regimental shrine and the commandant’s house.
Situated downhill next to the tranquil riverside is a spectacular Roman Bathhouse. The Bathhouse provides an insight into how the romans would have relaxed and bathed in its array of rooms.
The fort also features a Museum displaying a collection of roman finds including altars, pieces of jewellery and religious artefacts. Many items on display where excavated by John Clayon and have been on display in the museum since its opening in 1896.
Located next to the visitor centre and museum is the recently opened Chesters tearoom. The tearoom servers a range of hot and cold light food and is open daily from Easter to November and weekends from November to March.
