Barter Books

Barter Books

Housed in a historic Victorian railway station, Barter Books owned by Stuart and Mary Manley is one of the largest second hand bookshops in Britain selling thousands of second hand books as well as a collection of rare first editions. The bookshop enables customers to exchange their books for credit towards future purchases while still allowing customers to pay by cash. As well as featuring a large hall full or a vast collection of second-hand books has a dedicated children’s room with plenty of toys and children’s books to keep young ones entertained.

In 2000 Barter Books became famous when the owners discovered an original 1939 Keep Calm and Carry on Poster which can now be seen on display in the shop.

The Station Buffet

The Station Buffet is a cosy café spanning several rooms which are The Skylight Room, The Red Room originally the 1st Class Gents Waiting Room, The Green Room originally the passage way between Platform 1 and 2, The Blue Room originally the 1st Class Ladies Waiting Room and The Old Waiting Room originally the 3rd Class Waiting Room. The range of rooms are all unique in style and all have a different story behind them. They all make wonderful places to unwind and have a light bite or tea and cake.
