Alnwick Castle
Alnwick castle is one of the largest castles in the country and has been home to the Percy family for over 700 years. The castle is well known for having been a film location for the film Harry Potter and recent TV shows such as Downton Abbey and Robson Green’s Tales from Northumberland, The Antiques Road Show and many more!
Visitors to the extensive castle and grounds will be able to experience the prestigious state rooms, become a Knight in Knights Quest (Children’s activity zone), Browse a range of museums and galleries and even try out archery or broomstick riding.
State Rooms
Step into the prestigious rooms of the castle. Restored in the mid nineteenth century by Algernon Percy the rooms have a focus on the style of the Italian Renaissance. Plenty of carefully curved archways and grand staircases do not go a miss at the castle. The state room walls are lined of delicate hung tapestries and detailed paintings making the rooms. The state room experience takes you through a range of castle rooms including the regularly used Dining Room with a grand 21st Century feel and The Library housing a collection of 14,000 catalogued books and family photos.
Knights Quest
Knight’s quest is Alnwick Castle unique and engaging children’s activity zone. Set in the time zone of 1389 children can dress up and meet characters of the castle while learning about medieval castle life. They can try their hand at traditional games and practise their knight skills before taking on the fierce Dragon in Dragon Quest.
