Etal Castle

Etal Castle is a 14th century castle built by Robert Manners as a defence against scots raiders. In 1513 the castle fell to James IV’s invading scots army before their defeat at the nearby Flodden battlefield. Before visitors to the castle explore the ruins they can browse the award winning exhibition outlining the story of the Anglo-Scottish warfare of the castle. Should visitors be interested in story of the Flodden Battle they can even visit the Flodden Battlefield just a short distance away.

The castle is a prominent landmark that passengers of the Heatherslaw Light Railway will see when they disembark at the railways Etal station being located just next-door this makes the castle an ideal place to visit for anyone riding the railway.
